Packers Overcome Obstacles to Defeat Rams

by The Spiller on October 23rd, 2012 at 9:29 pm

The Packers were back at it again this week and showed more flashes of the team that everyone had expected them to be this year.  Aaron Rodgers threw for well over 300 yards and the Packers led for most of the game as they comfortably defeated the St. Louis Rams, 30-20.

What impressed me most about this game though was their ability to handle adversity and not crumble when things in the game didn’t go their way.  This trait is what makes teams a Super Bowl contender and hopefully it bodes well for the future. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

Packers Show Poise and Resilience to Stomp Texans

by The Spiller on October 15th, 2012 at 3:44 pm

The formerly undefeated Houston Texans were beginning to look like the cream on top of the NLF. Through five games they had a remarkable 5-0 record, complete with one of the league’s best defenses with sack-master J.J. Watt and one of the league’s best offenses behind a trio of stars in Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson, and Arian Foster.  But then the Green Bay Packers came to town and brought all the praise to a screeching halt.

What was more impressive about the Packers 42-24 victory?  Was it that Aaron Rodgers and his receivers finally connected for 6 touchdown passes, or that the battered defensive unit was able to hold Arian Foster to just 29 rushing yards, while not giving up a receiving touchdown to Schaub and intercepting him twice?  It was an all-around team victory that bodes well for the future. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

ROBBED!!!@$#%#$@!%#$

That is the only word that can truly describe what occurred on Monday Night Football, when the Green Bay Packers saw a wonderfully orchestrated second half comeback stolen by some terrible officiating from the NFL’s replacement referees.  The Seattle Seahawks benefited from a series of atrocious calls which culminated in a hail-Mary, game winning touchdown that probably aught to have been an interception and which displayed a blatant offensive pass interference penalty by Seahawks receiver and game-winning “hero” Golden Tate.

And yet, I don’t find it right to blame the replacement officials in the light of this occurrence.  The scabs that they are, the horrendous mistakes they repeatedly make on the field, and the terrible situation that the league finds itself in are all the fault of one man: Commissioner Roger Goodell. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

Arsenal and Manchester City Poised for First “Big Game” of Premier League Season

by The Spiller on September 19th, 2012 at 10:27 am

Arsenal travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday in what will be a tussle of titans in the Premier League.  The two clubs are both undefeated in the current season and are looking to make a big statement in this match.  Let’s see how the match should shake up:

People who thought that Arsenal would still be reeling from the sales of Robin van Persie and Alex Song look to be dead wrong.  New boys Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla have replaced the goal-scoring prowess of the Gunners, and the un-injured Abou Diaby is the new force in the center of the park. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

Packers Loss Humbling

by The Spiller on September 9th, 2012 at 9:54 pm

The Packers were beaten at Lambeau field to kick of the 2012 season, and I hope it’s not a beginning of the end to the budding dynasty the Packers had been creating in the last several years.  The 49ers came in and simply beat the Packers.

The defense was terrible.  I don’t recall seeing a single one of the 49ers rushing attempts result in negative yardage as their offensive line dominated the Packers’ defensive line.  The pass rush made a few plays as Charles Woodson and Clay Matthews piled up 4 sacks, but overall the pass defense was very bad.  Alex Smith put up good numbers and everyone had to witness another Randy Moss touchdown at Lambeau, which was something I had been hoping I’d never have to see again.  Worst of all, the Packers defense created 0 turnovers.  Last season’s defensive woes were slightly excused by the fact that they led the league in turnovers, but now it simply looks as if the team has lost even that. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
